Generational Curses Cancelled

3generationsIt keeps popping up like a bad penny that remains in circulation.  The sacred cow doctrine of generational curses causing sickness and disease that appears to be a favorite amongst gullible believers and eagerly disseminated by huckster,  opportunistic lay preachers who fleece the flock selling them nothing but snake oil.

I say lay preachers because they are not ordained of God to spew forth the heresy and doctrines of men which they are preaching as if they were commandments from God.  They refuse to adhere to clear and concise scripture on this matter, choosing instead to deceitfully secure the riches of this world to themselves rather than preach truth to store up eternal rewards in heaven.

They feast on easy riches from gullible sheep so they can line their pockets by preying on them and seducing them with fables and philosophies conjured up in their evil and twisted minds, claiming to have answers and solutions to their woes when they only increase their suffering as they lead them astray and pickpocket their money.

Not only has God put this issue of generational curses to bed a long time ago, declaring it null and void, even science is now proving genetics to be completely unscientific and irrelevant, confirming God’s word which is always the case when science finally catches up to scriptural truths.

The excuse of generational curses is mostly used in the realm of sickness and disease more than anything else.  You’ve heard it;

“I have heart problems and my daddy died of a heart attack and his daddy died of the same thing so it must be a curse in the genes that’s been passed on to me.”

“I have to be monitored for cancer because my grandmother died of cancer and my mother was diagnosed with cancer, too.  It must be something my grandmother did that is passing on this curse to my mother and to me.”

Wrong and double wrong!

Yes, it is true that because of Adam’s fall, we all fell under the curse of sin.  But every true believer will tell you that Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins.  He was the last Adam and cancelled Adam’s curse of sin upon the entire human race simply by believing, accepting and trusting Him as Lord and Savior.  By His one act of redemption, Jesus forever cancelled any and all curses against us, once and for all, and nailed them to His cross.

Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.  Hebrews 10:9-13

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:   Ephesians 2:15-16

That should be enough to put this issue to bed once and for all.  But such is not the case.  It is quite persistent this myth, so we shall deal with it even more thoroughly to hopefully squash it like a bug, so to speak.

Yes, it is also true that at one time, God the Father held the Israelite children responsible for the sins of the fathers to the third and forth generation.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;  Exodus 20:5

The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.  Numbers 14:18

Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,  Deuteronomy 5:9

This was in context with the making and worshipping of idols as being against the second commandment of God.  But also notice what the next verse says:

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.   Exodus 20:6

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.  Deuteronomy 5:10

So, this already proves right here that God only visited the iniquity of the fathers upon those children that hated Him and not on those children who loved Him.  It clearly states in both Exodus 20:6 and Deuteronomy 5:10 that He showed mercy on them that loved Him and kept His commandments.  As such, loving God and keeping His commandments would already break the curse under the old covenant and replace it with God’s mercy according to His word.

Now notice that it only says that God visited the iniquities of the fathers but not the iniquities of the mothers upon the children.  This is further confirmed in Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Lev. 26:39-40; Num. 14:18 and Dt. 5:9.  All these verses speak of fathers and not of mothers.  Not one mother is ever mentioned in the context of passing on iniquities to her children.  If it were true that the sins of the mothers were passed on to the children, then it would not have been possible for Jesus to have been born sinless from a sinful mother and a sinless Father being the Holy Ghost since He was born as sinless flesh.

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:  Romans 8:3

He was sent in the likeness of sinful flesh but had sinless flesh.  This is how He could be without sin to be the perfect lamb and spotless sacrifice for our sin.

But as with any commandment, man either adheres to it, ignores it, changes it or takes it to extremes.  Seeing this abuse, God one day said: ” Enough of this!  You can no longer use this saying anymore!”

As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.  Ezekiel 18:3

What was this proverb?  It was Exodus 20:5, Numbers 14:18 and Deuteronomy 5:9 put to a proverb:

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?  Ezekiel 18:2

The sour grapes were the sins of the fathers that were setting the children’ teeth on edge being taught that they were responsible for their fathers’ sins.  God said that no more can you use this proverb or saying in Israel because each soul will be responsible for its own life or death.  In the rest of the chapter God explains through Ezekiel that each individual that sins shall die and that the son is no longer responsible for the sins of the father or vice versa.

The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.  Ezekiel 18:20

This was also confirmed through Jeremiah:

In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.  Jeremiah 31:29-30

Notice in all of this it does not once mention sickness or disease but only death.  “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.”  Then where pray tell does this notion and false doctrine of sickness and disease being passed on through generational curses come from?  Certainly not from scripture as we have proven here.

The answer is twofold…fear and embracing false doctrine.  It comes from a spirit of fear and teaching as doctrine the commandments of men.  People who have been, or fear being, diagnosed with what they believe is the same illness or disease their parents had, are consumed by a spirit of fear that this “curse” will fall upon them.  Fear that has either already manifested or will eventually manifest into the very illness they have feared for so long.  They have basically feared it into being.

They are believing a lie that, just like the serpent twisted what God had said in the garden to Eve about the tree of life, has been grossly twisted from what God actually said as part of His commandment.

We have already proven that sickness and disease is not being passed on because of a generational curse and we have already proven scientifically that it is not passed on genetically either (see prior post GENETIC CANCER THEORY DISPROVEN).  But first let’s address this issue and spirit of fear.  This spirit is not of God:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  2 Timothy 1:7

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  John 14:27

By entertaining such a spirit it is not you who fears.  It is this spirit itself which is fearful and is manifesting its own fear in you.  By you taking these thoughts of fear into your mind, you are taking them captive by harboring and internalizing them as well as the spirit of them.  They come to live in you and they become part of your thinking and affect your behavior and as such they take you captive in turn.  They do not infiltrate your spirit because that belongs to Jesus.  But they can infiltrate your body and influence your soul.  An old saying says that you will become what you always think about all the time.

Totally ignoring to walk in complete faith trusting only God, you now start confessing these fears and give them life.  You speak them into being.  You start telling everybody that will listen to you about your fears and how your parents or grandparents had the same thing.  You start acting on your fears by running to the doctors and getting exam after exam.  You are constantly on the lookout for it and any little twitch causes you to panic for fear that this could be it.  You start prophesying your own demise and when you are finally diagnosed with the very illness you feared, you say “See, I knew it.  I told you so.  It’s a good thing I caught it early.”

Didn’t Jesus say that according to your faith, so be it unto you?

“Well, what about the fact that my mother and my grandmother and my aunts all inherited the same dread disease?”

No, they did not all inherit the same disease, they most likely all inherited the same spirit of infirmity.   So if they passed on anything to each other, it was their spirit of infirmity causing what manifested and appeared to be the same illness in all of them.  So if something runs in your family causing sickness and disease, it is not a generational curse but rather a generational demon that needs to be cast out once and for all.

Remember, if it comes to kill, steal or destroy, it comes from the enemy.  As such, this includes all manner of sickness and disease no matter what fancy labels the medical community may give them.  They are all demonic in nature and origin and must be fought and eradicated as such.  It is not an epileptic seizure, it is a demonic seizure.  It is not a heart attack, it is a demonic attack.  It is not cancer, it is the demonic manifestation of the spirit of cancer.  Call a spade a spade and not some other fancy name totally detracting from what it really is.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.  John 10:10

Even Jesus Himself taught against generational curses caused by sin.

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.  John 9:2-3

Jesus confirms here that this blindness was not a generational curse caused by His parents sins nor his own sins, but it was from the enemy so that the miraculous works of God should be manifest in him by Jesus destroying those evil works.  These are the same works in sick people today that we are commanded to do the same works of healing that Jesus did so that they may be manifested in the people we minister to.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.  John 14:12

The word is very clear.  God is not a generational cursing God.  Even under the old covenant He put a stop to His words and intentions being misconstrued by the people.  It is not and has never been in His nature or His character to curse or condemn anyone who loves Him.

Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?  Ezekiel 18:23

Quite the opposite.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  Ephesians 1:3

This is His true character.  And Jesus was the express image of the Father.  Everything that Jesus did and said, he had seen and heard from the Father.  Jesus never withheld a blessing from anyone that sought Him.  Even after He first turned the Syrophoenician woman down for her request, because of her persistence in seeking Him, He gave her what she asked for and commended her for her faith.

We are the ones who build barriers to His blessings by our own unbelief.  It is our faith that justifies us or that condemns us by our own beliefs.  Jesus and the Father will be to you exactly what you believe them to be and give them credit for.  Jesus said in a parable, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee… (Luke 19:22).

Jesus tells us that “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. (John 15-9).  Ponder that.  As much as the Father loves Jesus, that is how much Jesus loves us.

  1. Hi, I would just like to say “God bless you”. Where I live, Nigeria, generational curses are always on people’s lips. I was even beginning to strongly believe in it but for a few weeks it has been nagging my spirit that there is something wrong about that belief. I thank God for directing me to this page because I am free now😊😊😊. Please continue doing God’s work and God continually bless the works of your hand, in Jesus name Amen. Thank you
