Harry, not his real name but used to protect his identity, and his wife came to our team meetings for several weeks. They were a very nice couple and we enjoyed their company.
One day, Harry called me up and asked if he could bring his cat to the meeting for us to lay hands and pray over. I told him sure, but that pets are really the owner’s responsibility to take dominion over for healing. He said he understood and at the next session he brought over his cat.
I prayed over the cat and then said “What about you? Didn’t you say something about your eyes?” “Yes.” he responded, “I have macular degeneration in both my eyes but they are saying it is incurable.” “Well, is anything impossible for Jesus?” I asked him. When he replied no, I took his hands and commanded the spirit of macular degeneration to go and for his eyes to be healed in Jesus name. I was pretty new in walking in power so I commanded quite forcefully and pushed his hands back as to push the power of the spirit into him fully.
With that he took a step back and exclaimed “Wow, that thing is over in the next county!” I asked him to check his eyes and do what he could not do before. “No, I don’t see any change.” He said. So I responded, “Well, life went into you so check it out over the next few days and let me know.” He agreed and he and his wife and the cat went home.
Two weeks later he sent me an email all upset that his cat had died. Among other things his email read:
Frank we will not be attending anymore meetings. [the cat] died over the weekend. I want to thank you… and your family for your prayers, but I need to find a healing ministry that when someone gets hands laid on in the name of Jesus, they actually get healed. I’m still having eye problems, knee problems, high blood pressure, … I remember Curry Blake said on a cd that if he laid hands on a sick person and they do not get healed within that week, do not blame God, blame me. I do not blame God, I blame this ministry…. Next time I find a healing ministry, I will see immediate results, or else my search continues because I still believe when someone qualified (much faith) and lays hands on the sick in the name of Jesus, they will be healed. Give my thanks to …. for his prayers for my family that evidently along with you fell through.
Well, needless to say, I was very disheartened and called him right away. I told him I was sorry to hear that but that, like I had clearly told him, I usually do not pray for pets and that it is the owner’s responsibility to exercise their dominion over their pets. He quipped right back “Well my eyes aren’t any better either so I’m not coming back!”
A bit puzzled, I told him again that I was sorry to hear that and apologized if my faith was not strong enough to get him healed. His response was that he knew there was healing but that he just had not found the right person. I responded that if he was looking for the right person, His name is Jesus and that no matter how long he searches, he will never find the right person besides Him.
“I do know that.” he responded meekly. I asked him to stay in touch and we got off the phone promising that he would. The next day I received the following email from him:
Thanks Frank, I appreciate your response. …Don’t put the blame on yourself… No matter how much laying hands, prayers, healing rooms, etc, Satan keeps winning and killing off my friends and family. I believe every word in the bible, but maybe I am misinterpreting some of the healing scriptures. I am at a confused state at this time….I will contact you in the coming weeks. We do not want to cut ties with you and your family. God bless and see you soon, Harry
I kept Harry on my mailing list and two months later I got a brief response to one of my emails to which I responded.
Hi Harry:
It was good to hear from you again. I would be happy to meet with you any time. You are my brother in the Lord and we are family. From all I have learned what stands out the most is that according to your faith so be it done unto you. Demons recognize Jesus and obey. When we command them, are they seeing Jesus or are they seeing us? Are we so hidden in Christ that they cannot see us? Or do we expect 100% results when we are only 10% committed? Curry even says that every time he lays hands and prays, he still has to believe every single time that it will work and that they will be healed. Jesus says: I am the vine and you are the branches. Unlike in a tree where the branches are distinguishable from the tree itself, in a grapevine the vine seamlessly goes over into the branch. You cannot see where the vine ends and where the branch begins. Are we so one in Him that demons cannot see where we end and Christ begins? Just read the first couple of verses of John chapter 15 and you will get the picture.
The next most important thing I have observed is that the people who are realizing success in healing are the ones who fervently pursue it with a vengeance and simply will not be denied. It took Pete Cabrera 2 years of laying hands on people every day before he started seeing results. It took Todd White 9 months of laying hands on 5 or 6 people a day before he started seeing any results. Curry says it took him 20 years to become an overnight success and regrets he didn’t start any sooner. Can we say that we have invested even an equal amount to dare expect similar results?
It is truly a journey of faith and persistence without any room for doubts or it simply will not work. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. James 1:6-7 (KJV)
In Jesus,
Frank
I received the following response back:
Hi Frank, your response in reference to faith is very helpful and something I could start practicing in my spiritual walk. I guess patience, persistence, and faith work hand-in-hand. My journey in faith and persistence is a work in progress. I remember the pastor told me I was spoiled because I wanted to be able to lay hands on people with instant results, but I am not quite there in my journey of faith. I will contact you about getting together. Thanks and God bless, and see you soon. Harry
Well we never did get together but about four months passed without a word when out of the blue, I received this email from him:
Hi Frank, How are you? I’m sorry I haven’t gotten in touch with you sooner, but we recently moved … God has been pouring blessings upon my family this year… I have missed you guys, and I hope the Lord is richly blessing your lives. Today I went to the eye doctor and he told me that he didn’t see much evidence that I had macular degeneration in my right eye and there is only a few small white dots in the picture for my left eye. He also told me that that my eyes for my age are not maturing which is very good news. Thanks to you laying hands over my eyes they are healing. Is there any way we could get together soon? Maybe sometime next week? Talk to you soon and say hello …for me. God bless. Harry.
To say I was thrilled would be an understatement. However, I could not help but be puzzled why it took almost six months for his healing to manifest. How could this be? What prevented him from being healed right away? Or at least within a day or two? Why six months with all the back and forth? I just did not understand.
In pondering about this the Lord quickened to me a conversation we had with him and his wife when they were at our house, about how they loved Halloween. They sat here on our couch proclaiming that Halloween was their favorite holiday and that every year they decorate their entire house from top to bottom with Halloween decorations. I could just picture a house full of goblins, witches, ghosts, devils and demons of every kind. Then it hit me. I had continued to pray for Harry and his eyes and as much as I was pouring life into him, he was busy building barriers to being able to receive his healing.
Demons were continuing to affect his eyes and have him believe that he was not healed. Quite possibly the demonic idols they had setup in their house were preventing angels from entering their house to act as enforcers to beat down the enemy. Most certainly they were deceiving Harry into believing that he was never healed. I received this last email on April 24th and could picture a spiritual spring cleaning and resulting healing manifestation. He had most likely started practicing his spiritual walk as he had written to me about four months prior and let his faith arise to the point of no longer building barriers to physically receiving his healing.
Though my faith was more than sufficient to get him healed, apparently it was his own doing that prevented him from receiving it faster than he did. Nevertheless, he eventually did receive it. Praise Jesus!
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. – 2 Corinthians 1:20
