World-Class?

d-a-carson-quote-heavenOn my way to a seminar today, I passed a billboard on the highway that was advertising for a local hospital.  It offered “World-Class emergency care locally here in Wayne, New Jersey.”

“World-Class?” I thought, “I don’t want World-Class!  I want Heaven-Class!”  Who wants to be cut up with knives, burnt with radiation or poisoned with chemical drugs when you can be instantly healed in the wonderful name of Jesus?  Right?

According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of World-Class is:

Being of the highest caliber available in the world.

This is not an entirely accurate definition.  The highest caliber available in the world is Heaven-Class.  But it is only available to true believers, those who want to be believers and even to those who seek out believers.  Heaven-Class benefits and privileges are primarily for Heaven-Class citizens and are ordained so by the Lord.

For our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:  Philippians 3:20

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:  Psalms 103:2

World-Class is Poverty-Class in comparison.  The highest caliber of anything on earth is utter and complete poverty compared to what is available to us and prepared for us as sons and daughters of the most high God.  When they say World-Class, they are really saying worldly or earthly and automatically limit it to only what the world can offer.

The world is broke.  It has nothing to offer other than sustenance for the body to survive.  It has nothing of everlasting value and benefit to offer the soul and the spirit.  The devil tried this with Jesus when he took Him up on a high mountain and offered Him all the World-Class wealth, power and glory of all the kingdoms of the world and Jesus turned it down flat.

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.  Luke 4:5-8

Why was it not even a temptation and no contest to Him?  Because He already knew what Heaven-Class was and what the devil was offering was mere dung in comparison.  And dung is all the world has to offer, even if it is World-Class dung.  Heaven-Class has no dung.  The worst of Heaven-Class is far better than the best of World-Class.

All the World-Class offerings are mere distractions to take our eyes off of the prize of our Heaven-Class benefits us in Christ, right here and now, as well as, in the world to come.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.  1 Corinthians 2:9-10

Keep your eyes on the prize and don’t fall for anything less!
