You’ve heard these kind of prayers. They are repeated over and over ad nauseam in almost every modem day church and by modern day believers, or people who claim to be believers, all over the world. Here are a few examples:
O, Lord, please heal me.
- O, Lord, please heal brother so and so.
- God, please guide the surgeon’s hand during the operation to heal sister so and so.
- Lord, please give the doctor wisdom to find out what is wrong with me.
- Lord I pray that You might have mercy on my friend to heal them of their illness.
- O, Lord, I pray that You will send your healing power to heal so and so of their cancer.
- O, Lord, if it be Thy will to heal then please heal so and so.
Let’s start with the last one first because this is the one that unlocks all the others. If God foretold through Isaiah the prophet that He would give us His Son and that by His Son’s stripes at the whipping post we are healed, then when did He ever change His mind? He didn’t and that is why it is always God’s will to heal. There is no shadow of turning with Him. You cannot find one place in the bible where Jesus or the disciples were unwilling to heal. It was exactly the opposite. “I am willing!” Jesus said every single time He was asked. Not once did he ever say no or wait or turned them away empty handed. And since Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever, He has never changed His mind. Why do people have no problem believing that God can do all things but somehow just cannot believe that He is willing to do so and for His own children at all times?
Unlike the popular but incorrect teaching that has infested the church that God supposedly answers our prayers in three ways : Yes, No and Wait, there is no scripture to support this philosophy and it is entirely a doctrine of men. Just because it sounds good does not mean that it is truth. The word tells us that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, answers Yes at all times! If our requests line up with His will, they are always yes and amen. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. You shall have whatsoever you say. He never says “No” and he never says “Wait” to his sons and daughters who ask Him by faith and not in unbelief. Those who believe that they have received and act accordingly. If the answer is no or wait, it is not from Him but from our own unbelief.
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea [yes] and nay [no], but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 2 Corinthians 1:19-20
The word tells us that Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy. So when did He ever change His mind about this and decide that this was no longer the mission? He didn’t but since Jesus ascended into heaven, he empowered us as His disciples to continue the mission to destroy the works of the enemy.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14:12-14
So if God already provided for our healing 2,000 years ago, then why are people today still begging Him to do what He has already done? If Jesus paid for our healing by the stripes on His back, then why are people today begging Him to do it again rather than believing that by His stripes they were healed? It is already done. It is a fait accompli.
Did Jesus not pay the price? Of course He did. He was marred more than any man. Both the Hebrew and the Greek indicate that the word which is translated as stripes is in the singular and not the plural. This means that He had so many stripes that it looked like one big stripe covering His entire back.
Jesus paid full price for our healing at the whipping post. Is He then not entitled to get what He paid for in full? I have had people tell me that they did not feel worthy of receiving healing. My response to them always is that it is not about them but about Jesus getting what He paid for. It has nothing to do with their feelings of being worthy or not. It has everything to do with applying His stripes to their situation. Or at very least to find a true believer who has such faith and can minister His stripes to their body by the laying on of hands as it is clearly instructed in Mark 16:17-18 and James 5:16.
There is not one example in the New Testament of Jesus or the disciples ever begging God to heal any individual they were ministering healing to. The closest the scriptures come to this is when Paul, who prayed to God to heal the father of Publius. But if we examine this verse closely we will see that he only prayed to God to let the barbarous people of Malta know who he was connected to and not to beg God to heal him. The verse never implies this and lists each item as a separate event because it says that after Paul entered in and prayed, “he laid his hands on him, and healed him.” It says that Paul healed him. It does not say that God healed him even though Paul could not possibly have healed him in his own power, but most definitely healed him by the power of the Spirit of God that was present in Paul through Jesus.
And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. Acts 28:8
In this and all other references of healing, Jesus and all disciples did not speak to God about the sickness at all but instead spoke directly to the sickness, or to the demonic spirit that caused the sickness, and commanded it to go and for the individual to be healed. They commanded healing, they did not beg for healing. So why do we beg for it today?
Today’s believers are not being taught this because they are being led by teachers who were not taught this either. It is the proverbial blind leading the blind. Instead they are being taught half of a watered down gospel with no power to effectuate the works that Jesus instructed us to do in His last recorded words in Matthew:
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:18-20
Something got terribly lost through the ages. That is why they are called the dark ages when satan tried to snuff out the light of the true power of the gospel. It wasn’t until the turn of the 20th century that healing and the baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues was again revived. Why were these so suppressed for all this time? It is because the enemy knows how powerful and effective these weapons are to destroy the works of his kingdom of darkness. But Jesus said that he will build His church and the gates of hell will not overpower it. His gates are now crumbling and believers all over the world outside of the traditional dogma of the modern day church are waking up to their true position in Christ.
Why would believers today run to a doctor at the first symptom of a pain or illness only for the worldly wise doctor to confirm their evil report and with their consent willingly enslave them to pharmaceuticals that destroy no less than illegal drugs on the street do? Do you realize that pharmakeia in Greek means sorcery and witchcraft? That is all that these pharmaceutical potions are. It is a well known medical fact that drugs do not heal or cure any disease, they merely mask and suppress the symptoms and never address the actual cause. It is the body that must heal itself. That is how it is designed. By suppressing the symptoms they trick you into taking your mind off of the sickness so that it has the chance to heal itself without you constantly bombarding it with fear and doubt counteracting and impeding with the healing process. And this is just speaking in the natural (body) and psychological (soul) realm.
In the spiritual realm we understand that all pain, sickness and disease is a direct or indirect attack from the enemy who according to John 10:10 comes to kill, steal and destroy. Direct attacks are the symptoms that cause doubt and fear and make you run to the doctor. Indirect attacks are the results of acting on these doubts and fears with cut, burn and pharmaceutical procedures. Just think of the many horrendous side effects of any particular prescription drug today. Once the side effects begin to manifest, additional drugs must be prescribed and taken to combat these side effects which drugs in turn have their own new side effects which in turn must be dealt with by prescribing even more drugs. Before you know it, you are on a pharmaceutical merry-go-round that never stops and you are hooked for life.
Most cancer “survivors” have their cancers return within 5 years with a vengeance that is more aggressive than the cancer they supposedly survived after intoxicating their bodies and killing their immune system with chemotherapy and radiation. How are they any better than drug addicts or alcoholics in keeping their temple of the Holy Spirit pure and undefiled?
How do you think this makes Father feel when his children only come to Him as a last resort, once the doctors say they have done all they can do, give up on them and tell them that there is no hope and literally desert them? Why don’t they seek Father first so He can heal them and save them all the pain and suffering of the cutting, burning and medicating? In a moment He can heal and restore them and make them whole. If they will only believe.
Even Luke, the beloved physician, does not have even one recorded incidence of practicing his medical arts on anyone. He became a disciple and left his medical practice behind. Luke wrote the gospel of Luke and the book of Acts and accompanied Paul on his journeys. Yet not once did he cure or attend to anyone through means of his old profession. Why would he practice plain old natural barbaric medicine when he could effectuate miraculous healing in the name of Jesus. Why watch black and white television when you can watch in full living color?
Why does the church today beg and plead for healing with God when He has already given it to them? Why do they plead and beg Him to exhaustion for something He has already provided? How can He possibly answer the petitions they are asking Him in pure ignorance of and contrary to His word and His provision? They act more like the prophets of Baal, trying to call down the fire of God, rather than walking like sons and daughters of the most high God who have come into their inheritance.
Well they don’t know, you might say. Exactly! Or you might say that their faith is not that strong. Are you then saying that they don’t have faith the size of a mustard seed? But then whose problem is this? Certainly not Father’s Who has already provided what they are begging Him for. He has already answered their requests in advance but they are too ignorant to believe Him. Just so that they would not miss it, he even wrote it down for them in black and white in his word.
Let me illustrate what I mean with an example. What if I received a letter in the mail from my son with a bill for a college he would like to attend if I would please consider paying for it Delighted that after years of working he has finally decided to go to college, I immediately write out a check and mail the payment to the college. The next day he comes over and brings up the subject that he has been thinking about going to college so he can better himself. I enthusiastically tell him that I think it is a wonderful idea and that I got his letter and already mailed out the check. But oddly enough he does not react or even thank me and when he leaves, he stops me at the door and he asks me again if I would please think about paying for his college. Maybe he didn’t hear me the first time, I am thinking, so I patiently tell him again that I already paid the bill. He still does not react and says goodbye reminding me to please think about it.
The next day I get a call from him repeating the same request. Wondering if something might be wrong with his hearing, I patiently explain once again that I think it is fantastic and that I already mailed in the check. So he says okay and goodbye. Two days go by and I get a text from him with the same request. Now I am really starting to wonder what is wrong with him. How many times can I plainly tell him that I have already provided for him to be able to go to college. All he has to do is register and apply the funds I have already provided. However, not wanting to cause a situation, I just let it go. I explain to the college that they can keep the money on account until my son decides to use it and hope that someday he will realize the provision I have made for him and take advantage of it. What more can I possibly do? I can’t force him to go, can I?. Well, isn’t this just what most “believers” do today with their constant requests that he has already addressed and provided for if they will just simply read His word and believe what it says and act on it accordingly?
Why do they still believe the enemy’s lies that Father does not hear them or answer their petitions and that they are powerless to effectuate anything? Why are they willing to put up with his lawless bullying when they have the sword of truth in their hand with which they can strike him down and his lies? Why do they tolerate the enemy’s fiery darts, unwilling to apply their shield of faith to quench them all and then they turn around and practically blame God for the attacks and beg Him to stop them?
They have developed a warped view of who their Father is and who the enemy is, many times ignoring that there even is an enemy or are even willing to consider that there is a constant spiritual war going on for their very soul.
The simple truth is that we should never ask God to do what He has already done or ask Him to do for us what He has specifically instructed us to do ourselves. He cannot answer prayers for Him to heal us when he has already provided His son’s stripes as the all sufficient provision for all our healing.
Look at the example of the woman with the issue of blood. Jesus had nothing to do with her effectuating her own healing by applying the Holy Spirit to her condition by faith and persistence. She would not be denied. She said to herself that if she but touch the hem of His garment that she would be healed. She did not beg. She did not speak to God and she certainly did not speak to Jesus to ask if this was okay to do so. She alone determined what she would do and decided her own method of healing. God not only allowed it but Jesus even commended her for it. She singlehandedly drew the healing power of the Holy Spirit out of Jesus by her faith and determination. No one in the recorded history of the world had ever done such a thing before. But she did it. It was her faith that made it happen. And Jesus told her according to her faith be it unto her. Her faith had made her whole.
How many sick people in the church could use such a healing for their sickness? They all know the story but how many will apply it to themselves? It was not Jesus that healed her. Jesus had nothing to do with it other than that he was filled with the Holy Ghost which power he felt going out of Him. It was her faith that drew out the Holy Ghost power to effectuate her own healing. This is the same Holy Ghost that we all have living inside of us as believers that according to Romans 8:11 quickens or makes alive our mortal bodies.
But, you might say, how is it then that some people do get healed when they pray to God or as you say beg for their healing? That is because they have put their faith into it. Remember Jesus said that according to your faith, so be it unto you. Just as with the woman with the issue of blood, if you put your faith in a certain method, and truly believe it, it will work, even if it is not God’s design.
