I needed to pick up just a few things at the grocery store.  When I came out of one of the aisles, I bumped into a man who was riding in a motorized shopping cart.  I always look to see if there’s a walking cane in the basket and sure enough, there was.

So I approached him and said “Excuse me.  I noticed your go-cart and your cane.  I’m a minister and I pray for people and God heals them.  Can I pray for you?”  

He looked at me with a smile and said he could always use more prayer.  I introduced myself and he told me his name was John.  “Nice to meet you, John.  What’s the condition?  What can I pray for?”, I asked him.  “Oh, I have a lot of things wrong with me but right now the biggest thing is this pain in my knee.  I have arthritic pain in my knee.”, he said as he pointed to the top of his right knee “It’s right here.”  I said “Okay, right here?”, as I came around to the other side of his cart and put my hand on the spot on his knee.  “Yes, right there.”, he replied.

“Okay, let’s pray.  Father, I thank you for John.  Jesus, I thank you that you love John and that you’re going to prove to him right now how much you love him by setting him free of this condition.  “All pain, I command you to leave NOW!  Get out!  Knee, be completely healed and made whole.  So be it in Jesus name.”

I told him to check it out and to move his knee and try to find the pain.  Instead, he just looked at me and said “Thank you.” and was ready to go.  I said “No.  Go ahead and move it around and try to find the pain.  That’s how healing works.  You have to move it to activate it.”  Reluctantly he moved his leg and put it on the floor and off of the cart.

He kept moving it back and forth but didn’t say anything.  So I asked him “Well, where’s the pain?”  He responded with a surprise in his voice “Well, that’s the most amazing thing and it might be because of the medication but I can’t find anything right now.”  I looked him straight in the eye and said “No.  That’s because Jesus has just healed you.  The kingdom of God has come near unto you.”

I asked him if there was anything else I could pray for but you could tell that he was a little shook up and didn’t know what to say.  He started to get real fidgety and wanted to leave.   Sometimes people get very uncomfortable when they realize that God has just come real close to them and touched them physically.   For many people this is far too close for comfort and quite confrontational.  They usually don’t expect anything more than a heartfelt but powerless prayer of begging God to pretty please heal them sometime when in His infinite mercy He might consider it.  They have no clue that the power of God resides in His sons and is available to them on demand.

I said “Wait a minute.”, and handed him my card, “Call me if you need or want me to pray for anything else or, if you know anyone else that needs prayer for healing, please have them give me a call.”  He shook his head yes, and said he would do that.  He quickly said good day, thanked me and off he was.

I smiled and thought to myself, yes, the kingdom of God has come near to him.  And his life will never be the same.  Praise Jesus!
