I am amazed at how many people just don’t know how to pray.
So they don’t.
O, they can spend hours on the phone or over coffee with a friend and lose all track of time, but when it comes to talking with the One they claim as their very best friend in the whole universe, all of a sudden, they have nothing to say.
O, sure, they’ll pray over their lunch or dinner and with the kids before they put them in bed, but that one-on-one ‘face time’ with their heavenly Father just seems to escape them.
The world tells us to spend quality time. So being carnally minded, we have adopted this idea that we must only spend quality time or it is not right.
Wrong! Imagine saying to someone you love, “I only have 10 minutes so I want to make sure I only spend quality time with you!”
Translated what you are really saying is: “My life and my time and and my ambitions are more important to me than spending time with you and if I have to spend 10 minutes with you, then I better get the most out of my precious 10 minutes that I can.”
A bit self centered, wouldn’t you say?
Is this the same attitude we have with our Father? With Jesus? And with the Holy Spirit? Check your heart right now and see if this is what you have been doing.
No, we need to be spending quantity time with the One we claim to love the most. If we have no problem doing this with friends, then why not with our very own Lord and Savior?
Remember when you were in love and you couldn’t wait to get together with the one you were so in love with? They occupied your every thought all day and all night long. Everything just revolved around them. It seemed like forever until you could finally see them again and then, when you were finally alone together, time just flew by and you could not believe it when it was time to say goodbye already and you were just hanging on for dear life for every extra precious minute you could, just to be together for a little bit longer.
Hours passed by in minutes and the more time you could be together and talk and be in each other’s company, was the most precious thing in the world to you. Nothing else mattered. Nothing would stop you and nothing could get in your way. You would forsake everyone and everything else just to be together with the one you loved.
If you married your crush, you are still spending every day together and your “can’t wait to be together” has matured into more of a “can’t live without each other” relationship and you still want and need to invest quantity time with each other every single day.
Do you love Jesus this much? Is He still your first love? Do you spend quantity time with Him? Does He occupy your every thought day and night?
“But how can I spend quantity time? My day is so jam-packed as it is. You don’t understand. I don’t have time to spend hours in my prayer closet!”
Sound familiar?
Religion says, this is my world and God can have a little corner over here as long as he doesn’t interfere with the rest of my life. But the righteousness which is of faith says “This is God’s world and I have my little corner over here and I am thrilled to be part of His kingdom and I want Him to interfere in every aspect of my life and provide for me. My life is His.”
Whoever said that you can only pray in your prayer closet? When you talk to your friends, is it only in one designated spot?
No, you talk on the phone, you text, you Skype or Face Time, you have coffee with them or meet them for lunch and you talk, talk, talk all the time and have a hard time saying good-bye, don’t you?
Why would your communication with Jesus be any different? Start in the morning the moment you wake up, talk to Him over breakfast, have a cup of coffee or tea with Him (hint: He’ll have what you’re having), meet Him for lunch, open the door to Jesus when He knocks and let Him in to sup with you and you with Him just like you would your very best friend who just happened to stop by and knock on your door to say hello and grab a cup of coffee with you, just because.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
Many believe that this verse is for sinners to open the door to let Jesus in to save them. It’s not. It was written to believers to have daily fellowship with their Lord and Savior.
Let the last words you see before you doze off to sleep be His words as your bible falls closed next to your pillow .
Many people say they do not ‘feel’ close to God.
Well, whose fault is that? Certainly not His? Especially if you have been avoiding Him. Try avoiding your loved one for weeks on end and see how close you will feel to them and they to you.
This is a true love relationship in its purest form. He even made you a promise that if you will draw near to Him, then He will draw near to you.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:8
Would you rather that Jesus knock you off your high horse like He did with Saul and tell you how much you must suffer for His name sake?
Believe me, you don’t want a visitation, but a habitation.
Visitation usually means wrath and judgement in the bible. Habitation means indwelling. Realize that He pursues you every day through the Holy Spirit, but it is up to you to build a relationship.
Many even say that they don’t hear from God and that God does not talk to them.
Wait a minute. Do you have a bible? That’s Him talking to right there in black white and especially in red.
He wrote that specifically for you. It is physical, tangible evidence in a love letter written directly to you.
Want to hear God the Father speak to you? Read the Psalms.
Want to hear Jesus talk to you? Then try reading only the red verses in the gospels.
As you read the Holy Spirit comes alongside and quickens His word to you. He will even suggest other correlating verses for you to read and take you deeper and deeper on a journey to discover His immense love for you.
Did you know that that is His job? His name in the Greek is Parakletos which means “helper alongside”.
He is there to help you. But don’t be waiting on Him while He is waiting on you to do something so He can come alongside to help you.
He can’t steer a parked car. Start driving so He can steer you. Otherwise you will find yourself in the middle of an old fashioned Mexican standoff. Those can go on forever, you know.
So here is a sample prayer and outline, and that is all it is, of how you can start your day with prayer.
The key is to start praying when you wake up and not stop until you fall asleep at night. It should be an all-day and all night open line, 2 way communication that never ends.
Even when you wake in the middle of the night, just whisper: “You are here, Lord. I know You are here. I love You.” He is there 24/7/365, every second of every day.
Again, this is only an outline and an example. You need to make it your own talk with your best friend. And if you need to print this out and use it as a guideline to get you started, then so be it. Just click the “Print” button below. It is better to pray using an outline than not to pray at all.

You are Adonai Yehovah, the Lord my Sovereign, my Master (Gen. 15:2,8).
You are El-Shaddai, the God Who is all Sufficient for all the Needs of His People and more than sufficient for all my needs.
Thank You for this beautiful new day. Bless this day to Your glory. Let Your perfect will be done in it on earth as it is in heaven. Thank You for encamping around us with Your angels, around (name your spouse, children and their spouses and children, etc.) and me, our home, our pets, our cars and everywhere we travel and will be today and always. Thank you for placing a hedge of protection and a wall of fire around us, and angels with flaming swords, to keep us in Your perfect care and from the evil one. Thank You for giving Your angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways. Thank you for sending Your Spirit before us to straighten our paths and guide us into paths of righteousness for Your name sake that You will be glorified in all that we do today and forever. Thank You for giving us Jesus and with Him freely giving us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Thank you that it pleased you to bruise Him and make His soul an offering for our sins. I confess and repent of all of my sins. Forgive me and wash me clean in the precious blood of Jesus. Help me to keep my eye single and focused on You and on Jesus by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness towards me. Blessed is the man to whom God will not impute sin.
So now Lord I come before You and ask You to draw (names of people in need of salvation) unto Jesus without which no man came come unto Him as You said in Your word that they too may know You and have Your salvation and have the same riches in Christ that You have given me as a son of God. Jesus said all who come to me I will in no wise cast out. You are not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9) and receive your provision and salvation for them in Jesus Christ. Help them to open their ears that they may hear and open their eyes that they may see and understand in their heart and be converted that You may heal them.
Holy Spirit Convict them of sin and of righteousness and of judgement. Of sin because they believe not on Jesus. Of righteousness because they see Jesus no more because He went to His Father. Of judgement because the prince of this world is judged.
Father, show them Your mercies and Your love for them. I ask You for their sake and their family’s sake and for Jesus’ name sake and that they may be the firstborn among many brethren.
Father, I thank you that all the men in our family are strong, godly men, spiritual leaders of their families and their households and that they love and cherish their wives and nurture them as their own flesh and give Himself for her as Christ gave Himself for the church. Thank you that all the women in our family are virtuous, godly women, caretakers of their families and their homes and that they love and honor and reverence (lit, fear) their husbands and are subject unto them in all things as unto the Lord willingly, no more no less, as both are subject unto Christ and unto each other. Thank you that they love and raise up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, training them in the way they should go so when they are old they will not depart from it. Thank you that all the children are strong and mighty warriors for Christ.
Father, I ask You for and receive from Your hand, abundant grace for today for my wife/husband and my whole family along with Your wisdom, Your discernment and Your understanding and I receive it now in Jesus’ name for all of us. Thank you for giving us the mind of Christ. Thank you giving us Jesus and with Him giving us all things.
Good morning, Jesus! I kiss the Son! You are Yeshua Hamaschiach, my Lord, my God, my King, my Savior, my Friend, my Brother, my Kinsman Redeemer, my Fellow Heir, my Healer, my Love and my Joy! That you should die for me, oh how can this be? But You did and gave Your life as a ransom for mine. Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank You for laying aside all Your glory You had with the Father and coming here to show us and to prove to us how much You love us and how much the Father loves us and only saying those things that You heard the Father say and only doing those things that You saw the Father do. Thank you for being the express image of the Father that when we look at You, we see the Father. Thank You for giving your back to the smiters and taking the stripes on Your back for my healing and taking all my infirmities upon yourself so that I am made whole. Thank You for taking the nails on the cross and shedding your precious blood on the mercy seat to establish the new covenant in Your blood and for the forgiveness of all my sin. By Your Stripes and by the shedding of Your blood we are saved and healed to the uttermost. Thank you for being my Advocate with the Father and for washing me clean in Your precious blood and not only forgiving me of all my sins but even forgetting them and separating me from my sin as far is east is from the west and making me whole. Thank You that You said that when You were lifted up, you would draw all men unto you. Thank you for giving us gifts when You ascended on high and for sending the Comforter and being with us until the end of the age. I will go forth and do Your works and proclaim that Your kingdom is nigh to all who will hear.
Good morning, Holy Spirit, sweet Spirit of God! You are my Comforter, my Counselor, my Parakletos, my Helper Alongside, my Teacher, my Guide and the Spirit of Truth. Lead me into all truth. Guide me and counsel me today and give me wisdom and discernment for all my tasks that I may accomplish them by Your wisdom and to the glory of the name of Jesus. Thank You for coming to convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. Fill me and endue me with Your power from on high today and help me to walk in the same power in which Jesus walked. Thank you for coming here and for dwelling and abiding with us and in us, with me and in me, and helping us, and helping me, to execute the will of the Father in the name of Jesus to the glory of the Father and to lift the name of Jesus Christ, above every other name.
Supplications:
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. – Psalm 139:23-24
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. – Psalm 23
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. – Psalm 91 – See THE POWER OF PSALM 91
Now lift your hands and give Him praise and just keep praising Him! You can also switch to tongues or even pray all of this in the spirit in tongues, for when you do so you give thanks well according to Paul (Corinthians 14:17).
Now don’t hang up the phone! Don’t say amen and just stop, but keep the line open and the communication going.
Put it on speakerphone or plug in your spiritual headset and keep talking. You won’t get charged by the minute but you will get credit for each minute invested in prayer.
And guess what? The enemy cannot understand tongues so he cannot try to thwart your prayers. It’s a secure line that even the NSA cannot tap into!
Ever prayed something and the opposite happened? That’s because you let the enemy listen in on your requests and then he came against it. That’s one of the reason why we gave us tongues.
Pray without ceasing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
How do you pray without ceasing? That’s easy. Pray in tongues all day long.
Do it under your breath if you have to. Do it out loud in the car when you are driving.
You are letting the Holy Spirit use your mouth to pray and effectuate powerful things in the spirit for every second you pray in the spirit.
And…at the same time, you are building yourself up in your most holy faith.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, – Jude 20
