On July 7th of 2016 at 2:42 PM, I received an urgent prayer request from JGLM headquarters entitled “Missing Person, NJ”. Here is what the message said:
I live in NJ and Clarissa is my daughter, 35 and is having a mental, physical problems. She is missing, and I need prayer for her. I need every prayer for restoration and healing and freedom, I know God can restore. Please call me.
I called the requestor who was her mother, Francine (all names have been changed to protect their identities). She was frantic that her daughter, with mental issues, had left her house several days ago without a trace of where she went. She had been calling everyone she knew to no avail. Now she was asking for prayer for her daughter to be found and restored to her.
“Jesus knows exactly where she is.” I comforted her and to which she agreed. “So let’s pray…” I continued “Father I thank you that you know exactly where Clarissa is and now I grant Francine’s request that she be found by authorities or friends and return home and be restored to her family in Jesus name. So be it.”
Francine thanked me for praying with her and I asked her to keep me posted. I also told her that I expected a good report. After we got off the phone, I continued to pray in tongues until I felt right in my spirit that it was settled.
Some may say, “How can you possibly say that you grant her request? You are just a man! You are not God or Jesus! Who do you think you are?” and be offended. The Pharisees too, were offended that Jesus would dare grant requests and people were healed in front of their eyes. Especially when he said “Your sins are forgiven.” They even considered it to be blasphemy. What they missed of course was that Jesus indeed was the Son of God.
Through Jesus, I, too, am a son of God.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13
As a son of God, I am an heir of God and a fellow heir with Christ.
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint- heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:16-17
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus completed our redemption and was given all power and authority in heaven and in the earth which he in turn delegated to us as His disciples and fellow heirs.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Mat 28:18-20
This is called the great commission and is most solidly confirmed in Jesus’ own words as his commission to all believers.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:12-13
Jesus’ works included healing, casting out demons, raising the dead and granting people’s requests. If I claim to “believe on” Jesus, then I am not only authorized but even commissioned by Jesus Himself to do the same works that He did and even greater works because He left to go and be with the Father in heaven. This would certainly include granting people’s requests to God, now wouldn’t it?
We would call this having “power of attorney” to be able to act in another’s stead. It could also be considered as agency or to be able to act as an agent on behalf of the entity giving license to act as the agency would act itself. In this case we as believers are authorized and commissioned to act as Jesus would act if He were here in the flesh. Because as He is, so are we in this world.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17
The next day, Friday, at 9:04 AM, I received the following email from Francine:
Good morning Frank,
Yesterday, you called and prayed with me regarding my daughter, Clarissa who was missing since Wednesday. This was in response to my email prayer request to JGLM. Thank you JGLM for your prompt response. It was such a relief hearing from someone who shared the burden with me. Thank you again for your prayer and your willingness to listen. That meant a lot to me and I will always be grateful for that.
Thanks be to our merciful and gracious God, she returned home last night about 8:45 pm. She said that she was at a high school girlfriend’s house and that she had called me. But she called an old telephone number that our family no longer use. She has not memorized my cell number. (But then, most of us no longer need to memorize numbers due to speed dialing.)
I still would like you to pray regarding her full restoration that I expect from the Lord due to his mercy and loving-kindness to us.
Blessings and peace be multiplied to you, your family and your ministry,
The Lord heard her petition and honored my granting her request. Clarissa was restored to her family. Praise Jesus!
