As I was shopping at Costco picking up some things my wife had indicated we needed, I saw a gentleman driving around in a motorized shopping cart.  His young daughter was walking with him and around his cart.  I pulled up alongside him and asked: “Did you hurt yourself that you are using this go-kart?”

He looked up at me and smiled and said:”Oh no, I need to go for surgery on my knee.” as he held his left knee with his hand.

“Well, I’m a minister and I pray for people and God heals them.  Can I pray for you?” I asked.

“Yes!” he shouted excitedly.  I introduced myself and he introduced himself as Calvin.  When I asked if I could place my hand on his knee, he grabbed my hand and enthusiastically placed it firmly on his knee and said: “Go ahead!”

I immediately thought: “This man is getting healed right here and right now!  He is literally pulling it out of me.”  It reminded me of the woman with the issue of blood who was convicted that if she but touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be healed.

So I prayed and commanded the spirit of pain and infirmity to get out in Jesus name and for his knee to be healed and made whole.  Then I told him to get up and do what he could not do before.

This is the most important step in the commanding healing process.  Lester Sumrall used to say that you do not always have to cast out a devil.  Just command him to do what he does not want to do.  He hates to be commanded to do what he does not want to do.  Too bad for him.  You are commanding him to bow his knee to the name of Jesus and thus defeating him and breaking his power and ability and destroying his works just like Jesus did.

lo, I give to you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and on all the power of the enemy, and nothing by any means shall hurt you; Luke 10:19 YLT

Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8 ESV

Calvin was so excited and jubilant that he was laughing continuously and could not help chuckling under his breath as he started walking around and checking out his brand new knee.

“Try to find the pain.” I instructed him.  He smiled and said: “I just have a little bit of pain left right here.” as he pointed to a spot on the inside of his knee.

Now I always like to disciple people rather than just set them free.  Kind of like teaching a man how to fish rather than giving him a fish.  If I can get them to see that they can be delivered by their own faith in the power of name of Jesus,  then they can get and keep themselves healed when they are attacked again.  So I said: “Now you do it.  Put your hand on where it hurts and tell that pain devil to get out.”

He did just that and started dancing around and laughing out loud as soon as he discovered that all the pain was completely gone.  “That’s our Jesus who did that!” I exclaimed.  With that he gave me a great big hug and trying to keep calm he told me: “I have to tell you this!  I have to tell you this!  I told my wife when we came up here that someone is going to come and pray for me and I am going to be healed!  I told her that!  Can you believe that?”  “Yes, I believe that.” I said.  “That’s why my wife sent me shopping here today.”

He was so excited that he called his wife on the phone who was shopping on the other side of the store asking her where she was and that she had to meet this minister who had just laid hands on him.

His little girl had been watching all of this with her eyes big as saucers.  So I thought I would take advantage and disciple her a little bit as well.  “Did you see how Jesus instantly healed your dad’s knee?”, I asked her to which she nodded her head up and down and confirmed: “Uh-huh!”  This impression will stay with her for the rest of her life.

He bade me to follow him to come and pray for his wife who he said gets headaches all the time.  So as we meandered through the busy Saturday shopping crowd, he kept checking over his shoulder to make sure I was still following right behind him all the while chuckling and laughing under his breath, he was so happy.  He was physically so excited that he had been instantly healed that he was simply overwhelmed and bubbling over.

I got to meet his wife and son and after he explained exactly what had happened to him and how he was instantly healed, he asked me to pray for his wife’s headaches.  Well, she did not have a headache right then so again, trying to disciple people rather than just act as a deliverer, I had her lay her own hand on her own head and command the foul spirit of headaches to get out and stay out and encouraged her to do this the minute she suspected being attacked.

Before I bid them goodbye, I turned to their young son and said: “Isn’t that exciting that Jesus instantly healed your dad’s knee?”  “Yeah!” he responded in amazement.  Another lifetime impression on a young mind.  It reminded me of the following verse:

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.  Proverbs 22:6 KJV

They asked me for my number and I gave them each a card and invited them to join us for our training sessions on Wednesdays and that I hoped to see them all again real soon.
