Did You Believe That You Received?

I can’t really remember when it started but it was about 22 years ago.  It was a pain in my left shoulder and arm that went all the way down to my hand.  It started gradually but got worse every day until I could not use my hand or move my arm at all without experiencing severe pain.  It even hurt while I was sleeping and would wake me up if I turned in my bed.

It was most annoying, not to mention, most uncomfortable.  One day my young son came running up to me and said “Hey, dad!” while he tapped on my hand.   I almost went through the roof.  “What’s wrong with your hand?” he asked.  “Nothing.” I said.  I did not want him to know or to worry that there was anything wrong.  The closest thing I could describe it as would be rheumatoid arthritis although I don’t really know because I never went to a doctor to have it checked out.  Partly because I did not want a doctor to establish a name for it but mostly because I wanted the Lord to heal it.

After much praying and reflection I firmly believed itGuitachord to be a spiritual attack from the enemy.  I played guitar in church and had pretty much devoted my life to only writing, playing and singing Christian music.  I knew that the enemy did not like that and I was convinced that it was a demonic attack to prevent me from glorifying the Lord with my playing music.

It was painful to hold my chords on the guitar.  Between songs I would have to let my hand hang down to relieve the pain while regaining strength for the next song.  I was avoiding using my left hand at all cost and strictly used my right hand for just about everything.  This went on for about a good year and a half.

So I prayed and asked, or rather begged, the Lord to remove this from me and for Him to heal me.  I prayed and prayed or better stated, I begged and begged, not realizing that I was asking the Lord to do something which He had already done for me 2,000 years ago.

One night, after I had brushed my teeth, I looked in the mirror at my arm.  Then I looked up and prayed (read complained): “Lord, I prayed and prayed and asked You to heal my arm and it is still not healed.  Why haven’t You healed it?”  It was then that He spoke to me.  Not audibly, but in the spirit.  It was more like a loud thought in the middle of my head.  But it was very clear and explicit.  “When you prayed, did you believe that you had received it?”

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.  Mark 11:24

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.  Matthew 21:22

Uh, oh!  His words hit me like a lightning bolt.  He was right.  I had not believed that I had received what I had asked for.  Of course He was right!  He is God!

“Lord, you are right.  I did not believe that I had received it, did I?  Please forgive me.  OK.  I will pray one more time and then I am going to believe that I have received it.  No matter what I feel or what I see or what I experience.  I am going to stand on Your word no matter what!”

I know that my prayer was not perfect and I probably still begged Him to heal me.  But that did not matter because after that prayer of little faith, I believed that I had received my healing.  And that is what I was going to walk in.  It was settled.  Period.

I started quoting every healing scripture I knew.  Psalm 103, Isaiah 53, 1 Peter 2:24, etc.  I looked up and highlighted every healing scripture I could find.  I wrote them out and carried them with me.  I read them out loud every moment I had between working, sleeping and spending time with the family.  I would not allow any thought to the contrary to come into my mind and rejected them immediately.  I would not take thought of or speak out loud anything that contradicted the word of God.

I woke up the next morning and checked my arm and the pain was still there, just as bad as ever.  But I was committed to the Lord and I was not backing down.  All day long I set my mind to the fact that I was healed.  By His stripes I was healed.  The minute I felt any pain from moving my shoulder, my arm or my hand, I immediately came against it.

“Nope!  I am healed!  Jesus healed me.  He took my pain.  He took my infirmities and bore my sickness so I don’t have to carry them one second.  Bless the Lord, o my soul, who forgives all my iniquities, who heals all my diseases, who saves my life from destruction.  Thank you, Lord, for forgiving me all my iniquities and for healing all my diseases and for healing my shoulder and my arm and my hand and for saving my life from destruction!  Praise You, Lord!  I believe I have already received my healing and now I am made whole by Your name through faith in Your name.”  On and on I would speak it out loud when I was alone or in my head when I was in company.

When I woke up the following morning, there was no change in the pain or my arm at all.  But there was a change in me.  I felt a boldness I had not experienced before.  A faith was starting to develop like a mustard seed, that I started to believe could move this mountain.  So I did not let up and continued on my track of confirming the word at every moment I could.

Well, the next day it seemed like the pain was a little bit less.  But I couldn’t really tell.  Was it less or not?  O well, it did not matter because I was healed already and just waiting for my body to catch up.  So off I went confessing and confirming the word.  I was learning that the spiritual always precedes and overrides the physical.  When applied persistently and without wavering, in complete faith, the truth of the word overrides the facts of the flesh every time.  Like our Lord, we have to call those thing which be not as though they were.

(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, [even] God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.  Romans 4:17

When I woke up the following day, and felt my arm, I shouted out “Yes!  The pain is less!”  It wasn’t less by much but just enough to prove to me that it was working.  I was soooooo excited!  I was convinced that if I could move it an inch, I could move it mile!

I praised the Lord all day long and continued confirming the word all day long.  Now it was easy.  I had fought my battle uphill and was now over the hill and heading down the other side.  I was now on the victory side!  I had believed that I had received it before I ever saw it and now I was starting to see it!  Just like the Lord, I had called those things which be not as though they were.

Well, it took about 2 weeks and the pain lessened every day until it finally vanished completely.  A few years later it tried to come back on me and I jumped on it.  “O no you don’t.  I was healed by His stripes and I am still healed by His stripes.  Back off and get out in Jesus name!”  It left as fast as it came.

I was starting to learn to speak to the problem about God instead of speaking to God about the problem.  I learned that Jesus had already paid for my healing by the stripes He took on His back at the whipping post.  He did His part and paid the price in full for our healing.  He did not bargain that He might not feel the pain.  Yes, He asked if this cup could be taken from Him but He settled it once and for all by saying “Not My will but Thy will be done.” and took upon Himself the full price of the shame, the pain and the humiliation of the arrest, the blasphemy, the thorns, the mocking, the cursing, the false accusations, the stripes applied to his back so that he was marred beyond recognition more than any man, carrying His own cross in that condition, having nails driven through his hands and his feet, being hoisted up on a cross and enduring there for 6 hours before giving up the ghost and said, “It is finished.”

His body was broken for us and He deserves our full healing for His sake.   It is not about us deserving anything.  He deserves it and is fully entitled to receive that which He has paid for in full.

No wonder God cannot answer people when they pray and beg continuously for something that He has already provided for them.  These are prayers that He cannot answer simply because He has already answered them.  Yet people keep begging Him for the answer while they are holding it in their hand in His word.

This is part of the wrong teaching in the modern Christian church today, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men (Matthew 15:9, Mark 7:7).  Yet it is nowhere to be found in scripture.  The word actually states exactly the opposite.  Just look up James 5:16, John 14:12, Mark 16:17-18, Matthew 28:18-20, etc.  You will read that He has appointed us to receive and appropriate healing to ourselves as well as to others as part of His atonement.

I believe it was Smith Wigglesworth who said to never ask God for something He has already provided and also to never ask God to do what he has told us to do.

  1. Read your post and it’s very encouraging. I have been praying for my little boy for healing of his eyesight and also epilepsy. I’ve tried to have faith but it was difficult whenever I did see him exhibit symptoms of bad vision. I believe his epilepsy is healed mainly because he’s fine on medication and there are not symptoms to place fear within me, but with his eyesight I have been praying but have fear whenever I see him struggling to see. I have been declaring healing on him and full restoration and reading the healing scriptures and the verse about redemption from curses because his dad also has bad vision, but I do it without speaking it out loud mainly at night when he’s sleeping, because when I’m in the company of my husband and other son I can’t do it. My husband is not on board with my faith and I don’t want my other son to be aware of this situation, can I pray these healing verse and command healing on my son in secret and in spirt or does it have to be out loud?

    1. When my first grandson was born, they told my daughter and her husband that they put him on a monitor because they were concerned that he had an irregularity in his heartbeat. His father and I watched the monitor through the window and saw one of the inconsistent blips on the screen. Together we pointed to the baby and commanded the spirit of infirmity to get out of him and for his heart to be healed and made whole in Jesus name. The monitor normalized and did not blip again. We took authority in agreement and bound the enemy on the spot. This little boy just turned 5 years old and has never had a heart problem and did not display even a hint of any heart irregularities whatsoever. Considering afterwards, we realized that though they refused vaccines for him, and have not vaccinated him ever, they did not refuse the initial high dose of vitamin K they always administer to newborns in the hospital, which may have caused the irregular heartbeat. What I am telling you is that just like me, you have authority over your children and in Jesus name and have all power (exousia), in authority, to tread on serpents and scorpions (all evil spirits) and over all the power, (dynamis) only in ability, of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you or your children since they are under your dominion. This is literally what Jesus tells us in Luke 10:19. Please allow me to correct you or rather disciple you if I may. It is NOT difficult for you to have faith. You either have it or you don’t. When the disciples came to Jesus and asked Him “Lord increase our faith.”, He chastised them by saying “If you HAD faith, the size of a mustard seed, you would say unto this mountain…” meaning they had NO faith at all. So how could He increase their faith when they didn’t have any? Proof of having faith is that you speak to the mountain and tell it what you want it to do and it will obey you. Even if you only have a mustard seed size of faith, you still have faith. It is like you are either pregnant or you are not. Put it in the same perspective: “Lord bless my pregnancy.” “If you were pregnant…” See what I mean. You either ain’t or you is. Even if you don’t feel pregnant, you still are if you are. Same with faith. Even if you don’t feel like you have faith, you either have it or you don’t. Even if it is only as small as a mustard seed. Amen? It is also not something you try to have. To quote Yoda: “There is no try. There is only do or do not.” Same here. When you have finally determined that you DO have faith, there is no fear. For God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7-10. So fear and faith cannot exist together but are mutually exclusive. The one will drive out the other. Unless you can see in the spirit, do NOT be intimidated by what you see because you are not getting the whole picture. If you could see in the spirit, you would see that the enemy is testing you to see how much you will allow them to attack your son and when you will back off. Question: if you woke up to noises in your house and discovered some intruder was in your son’s bedroom with your child in his arms ready to kidnap him, what would you do? Would you be concerned that somebody would hear you making noise or disturbing the peace? Would you be intimidated by the intruder who has your child in his arms? Or would you whack him over the head with a baseball bat and rescue your child no matter what even if you had to kill him? Because that is exactly what the enemy is doing. He is trying to kill, steal and destroy your son as much as you will let him. You need to attack him with the same weapon Jesus used with Satan himself. When Satan insulted Him and attacked Him with temptations, He pulled out the sword of the spirit which is the word of God and said: “It is written…” and quoted the appropriate scripture. He only had to do this 3 times and Satan tucked his tail between his legs and left Him for a more opportune time. Just get into your prayer closet, go to your basement if you have to, and start attacking the enemy with the same weapon Jesus did. Either he relents or you do. This is renewing the spirit of your mind which is your attitude. My mindset in a fight in the spirit is “One of us is going to back down it ain’t gonna be me!” BTW, there are no more generational curses. God says so in Ezekiel 18. Read this article: https://yahministries.wordpress.com/2016/12/02/generational-curses-cancelled/ So your son did not inherit bad vision from his father. He is being attacked by a spirit of infirmity familiar with your husband’s issues and using the same to attack your son and need to be cast out. Don’t worry about your husband. He will be won by your actions. I would highly recommend this book by Andy Hayner called God Heals Birth Defects discussed here: https://yahministries.wordpress.com/2016/10/21/god-heals-birth-defects/

  2. Just wanted to give an update on Jonathan. He has now been healed from multiple boils (hidradenitis) for about 6 weeks. Every once in a while, a boil will start to manifest, and I’ll just curse it and command it to go, and by the next day it’s gone!

Jon has a great appetite now and is eating a great variety of food and a full plateful (in the past all he could tolerate was one cup of formula and a little applesauce, and even that would often cause great pain) — he loves eating once again! And he’s gaining weight.

We went to the Orthopedic doctor last week. A couple years ago, one of the seizure meds that Jon was on had caused thinning of the bones (osteoporosis) and then he was pushed down at school by a classmate, and 6 of his vertabrae were fractured and/or collapsed. For the past 2 years we’ve been speaking healing into that spine. Last year, an xray showed that 3 of the 6 vertabrae had healed and regenerated back to normal height. Last week, the xray showed that 2 more had healed! So we’re commanding that last one to regenerate back to normal, in the Name of Jesus!

We are still commanding Epilepsy, Autism, Incontinence and Down Syndrome to leave. I can tell you, it’s been a great battle! But we also know that with the authority and power that Jesus has given us — we win!

    1. Thanks, Karen, for keeping us posted. It is wonderful to witness your progress, especially since the world considers this to be incurable. You are proving them all wrong by the power of Christ in you and in Jonathan. Romans 8:2 & 11. Keep speaking to the mountain and moving it all the way out into the sea!

  3. Just a quick update — chronic pain is mostly gone — we had been giving pain meds several times a day, and now it’s more like twice a week. Still mostly calm and happy. We are starting to reintroduce solid foods and that is going well (he’d only been able to tolerate formula and food like yogurt or applesauce due to a paralyzed stomach). So, yes! The mountain is moving — I’d like it to move faster, but thrilled with the progress to date!

  4. Thank you. I know I need to be careful about my confessions — of words — what is said. It’s so easy to lapse into old habits, but focusing on confessing the Word of God over Jonathan. I have put together about 50 or so healing scriptures, and we’ve been reading and declaring those over Jon. When we see negative manifestations (i.e. symptoms of autism, etc.) we rebuke that and tell it to go (like telling the dog to get off the sofa!). We’re trying to remember to be more intentional about that as we go through the day.

Today’s update: he’s starting to speak! He has not said any words for some time, and he was very happy today and doing a lot of babbling, and saying “good good good.” This is our 4th day of being very calm, really no agitation at all, very happy and laughing — this is a different child from 5 days ago, when he was violent and agitated and in extreme pain. It’s so exciting to see the Holy Spirit turn things around! To see these demonic forces back down.

  5. Hi sister Karen,

Just lump it all together as the spirit of infirmity. Boom! Done. If it is not of God it is of the enemy (John 10:10).

Young’s Literal Translation says Psalm 103:3 this way: “Who is forgiving all thine iniquities, Who is healing all thy diseases,”

The word “all” in Hebrew is “kol” which means
    1) all, the whole
    1a) all, the whole of
    1b) any, each, every, anything
    1c) totality, everything

It is related to the words “ka.lil” which means “entire” and also “ka.lal” which means “to perfect”.

We would say today he makes us whole.

The modern day church is too busy worshiping their sacred cows and too afraid to kill them to get to the meat of the word which is to be a doer of the word and not a hearer only deceiving themselves (James 1:22). If they do not believe that Jesus paid the price for their healing, then do they really believe that Jesus paid the price for their sins? It is all in the same atonement.

Know that I am praying and standing with you! Declare with me right now out loud that Jon is already healed by the stripes of Jesus. Now tell him to do what he could not do before. Put your level of expectation in him that he CAN do what he could not do before. And keep speaking it and expecting it, w/o wavering, until it manifests.

You are moving the mountain by what you are already experiencing. Now keep the mountain moving until it is all the way cast out into the sea.

Be careful what you confess because you will have whatsoever you say. Choose your words carefully because death and life are in the power of the tongue and you shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21).

No! No other disease will come upon him because we rebuke the spirit of all infirmity from his body right now in Jesus name and command it to enter him no more. We command a hedge of protection and a wall of fire around him and summon holy angels with flaming swords to encamp around him for God gives His angels charge over him to keep him in all his ways. So be it and no other way,

    Great update. Praise Jesus!

Standing with you in the gap.

  6. Thank you brother Franciscus — and yes, I have Andy Hayner’s book, and have read it. It’s really powerful.

One thing that is a bit daunting, is that most people, when they’re praying for healing, are just praying for one specific thing (or maybe 2 or 3). In our case, we’re taking on multiple illnesses and disabilities, most of which are (from a medical standpoint) incurable. Most people think my husband and I are crazy (or theologically wrong) for claiming total healing from everything — but Ps 103 says He forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases (not just the ones that can be treated medically). Even our pastor is afraid to pray for him, even though he believes healing is in the atonement. But I know through studying the Scripture for the last 3 years on healing that we have the power and authority — it would be nice if other people also believed and prayed with us, but if not, God has given us what we need We just need to intentionally and continuously exercise it!

We’ve seen some exceptional miracles in praying/laying hands on others — hip pain disappeared (two people), a tumor of the bladder wasn’t there when a second ultrasound done, cancer of liver (that showed up on xray the night before) wasn’t there at surgery the next day, stroke victim healed and walked out of hospital perfectly sound. The last 3 years have been a time of great spiritual warfare. Our son will be healed of one thing, and then a new horrible disease will come on him. We were previously missionaries in Asia for many years, and this is very obviously demonic attack, trying to keep us from ministry.

Update on Jonathan — because of Autism, he hasn’t played with other children — he will sometimes watch them play, but doesn’t enter in. The report that came home from school was that he was running around and chasing the other students on the playground today! And this is our 3rd day running of calmness and lots of smiles and virtually no agitation.

  7. Thank you, brother, for sharing this testimony! I found it very helpful, how you explained the concept of believing you had received it as you prayed (i.e. spoke to the problem about God), and then continuing to confess healing, even when you didn’t see any immediate results.

I think this has been my issue as I’ve been praying for my son, who has been under immense attack from Satan (Down Syndrome, Autism, Epilepsy, multiple boils, and much much more). I first had to learn to speak to the problem about God, whether than begging God to do something He’d already done. And I had to learn to exercise my authority. But the missing ingredient was faith. Oh, yes, I had faith that God could and would heal (my daughter instantly healed from life-threatening allergies, a friend healed from cancer when we laid hands on her and prayed, etc.), but I didn’t have “long-term” faith. The healings I’d experienced manifested right away.

So, I’ve going through this journey of commanding the disabilities and disease that afflict my son to go, but if I didn’t see anything happen right away, I’ve been thinking that it didn’t happen. So, now I’m learning to hang in there, and continue to claim healing, even it it takes awhile to manifest.

So, in the past two days, we’ve seen Jon move from a highly agitated state, in intense pain, to being calm and relaxed and cuddly and smiling — even laughing. Every morning I was in fear that he would have a seizure and fall (this had been happening to him almost every day — sometimes several times), and now I’m rebuking the fear, and relaxing and he hasn’t had any episodes of falling from seizures. This morning I realized that I couldn’t see any boils (he usually has 5 or 10 at all times), except for one that was draining out — I couldn’t even see scars from old boils!

I know we’ll be physically seeing even more miracles as the days progress, and I’ll keep you updated!

    1. My pleasure, Karen.

For additional support you may like to read Andy Hayner’s book GOD HEALS BIRTH DEFECTS. Here is an article I did on the book with Andy’s permission and blessing: https://yahministries.wordpress.com/2016/10/21/god-heals-birth-defects/

Use the same weapon against the enemy that Jesus Himself used against Satan when he tempted Him in the desert: “It is written…”, followed by every verse you can throw at him until he retreats with his tail tucked between his legs. Then stand your ground (Ephesians 6:13)!

This is open warfare and you are called to be a warrior and have been given every spiritual weapon to defeat the enemy and force him to retreat. But you must put on the armor of God, put up your shield of faith to withstand the enemy’s fiery arrows and draw your sword of the Spirit which is the word of God and ATTACK!

Behold, I give unto you power [Greek: exousia which means delegated power in authority] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power [Greek: dunamis which means power in ability] of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

The Lord Himself has empowered you. You have full and complete authority (exousia) in the name of Jesus and dynamic power (dunamis) by the Holy Spirit within you (Romans 8:11). All the devil has is ability which he uses without any authority. Guess who wins in a battle? You do! Do not accept any of the devil’s lies and resist him at every turn. Do not give him a foothold (Ephesians 4:27)!

This includes standing in the gap for your son Jon. Lay hands on him and pray (command) over him with all authority. Let the life of Jesus flow into him by the power of the Holy Spirit within you and command that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus continually sets him free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). You are stretching forth the hand of God to heal and that signs and wonders will occur in the name of His Son Jesus (Acts 4:30).

Speak life into him by saying those things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). Even Jesus said that you shall have whatsoever you say (Mark 11:23).

Standing in the gap with you in agreement!

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:19

  8. Great Word! I especially like that you shared HOW you walked through the “believing but not yet seeing” phase. I already have “known” this, but keep slipping back into the believing I am not healed yet. I will more diligently pursue believing that it is done, perso ally looking up the scriptures and quoting them all day. I like how you shared “a faith was starting to develop like a mustard seed” and that you “set” yourself to pursure thanking God for the healing you had received but didn’t see yet. I will share your article with my bible study class.

    1. Thank you, Andra. God Himself spoke those things that be not as though they were. And since He created us in His image, He created us as being able to create with our words what we speak into being. The spiritual always precedes the physical. Jesus said that you will have whatsoever you say. Put that all together and realize that you can literally speak your healing into existence by standing on and confirming the word and making it yours, that it is already done and declaring it so and truly believing that you have already received it and it is yours. Now add to that the fact that He inhabits the praises of His people, when you praise Him and thank Him that you have already received your healing, the Holy Spirit inhabits your praises and completes His operation inside of you by the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead that quickens (enlivens) your body by His Spirit that dwells in you (Romans 8:11).
